A Love Affair with Christmas…
Otto and Ernestine’s is the tale of the first Christmas tree, a gift from the Fairy Queen to a German count. On Christmas Eve, Count Otto went hunting and while in the woods, chanced upon the Fairy Well. There he lost his gold ring. The beautiful Fairy Queen, Ernestine appeared at his home and greeted him with a tree all sparkling with diamonds and jewels. Count Otto was awestruck at the beauty of the tree for there had never before been anything like it in all the land. Ernestine returned his ring and soon after they were married, and every year on Christmas Eve a lighted tree was put up in the room where Count Otto met the Fairy Queen. And so, it is said, began the Christmas Tree.
